Will I have access to my records and are they secure?

Yes! At the Corpus Christi Birth Center your medical records are kept digitally in a secure online server, where you will always have immediate access to your medical records by using your own password which you set and no one else knows. All you need is an email address and access to the internet to view your records. We use a midwife based charting system called Private Practice. This service is completely HIPPA compliant in order to protect your privacy.

At each visit, your midwife will enter your medical record into this system and at the end of the visit you will automatically receive an email telling you that your record has been updated. Then all you have to do is follow the link provided in the email and then enter your secure password to view your records.

Another advantage to using this system is the ability to send you valuable information about your particular pregnancy concerns and keep the information confidential. For example if you need more information on vaginal birth after caesarean or varicose veins, we will send you a message with attached literature on the subject in question.

You will then receive an email with a link to this private message. All you have to do is use your password to access it. And if you reply to the email to ask questions, the system will keep track of any conversations you have with your midwife.

Another example of how we use the system is to let you see the results of lab tests or sonograms. We scan these results into the system and then send you a message so you can see everything we see. We think you will love how electronic charting keeps everything confidential but also allows you personal access to your own medical records at any time.
