Qualifications For Beth Overton, CPM, CCBC Director

Certified Professional Midwife

Beth has been a licensed midwife since 1998 and has attended over 300 deliveries. Her specialty is out-of-hospital birth including home birth and birth center deliveries. She has experience working as a doula in the hospital setting as well. Beth keeps up-to-date with continuing education, trains midwifery students and has a background in leadership with both local and state midwifery organizations. She also meets the standards and qualifications set by the North American Registry of Midwives to train student midwives.

Some Personal Information

beth's personal life includes her loving dogBeth is a 60 year old wife, mother and grandmother. She has been happily married to Larry, the one love of her life for 42 years. They have three lovely grown children and seventeen grandchildren. And to answer a question asked many times, “Yes, she has delivered some of those grandchildren, six of them to be exact.” Five of her grandchildren were also adopted.

She is especially pleased that her youngest daughter Jessica is also a midwife. Jessica and her family live in San Antonio, TX. Jessica trained with her mother.
Hobbies she enjoys are arts and crafts including crocheting. She also enjoys taking pictures of her grandchildren. She even produced some TV commercials for her first midwifery practice, Gentle Beginnings.

Achievements for the Cause of Midwifery

Beth has taught and spoke at numerous eventsBeth has trained midwifery students in workshops and also as a preceptor. As of May 2014, 4 students, under her supervision have completed their training and become Certified Professional Midwives. She meets the qualifications needed to be a preceptor for the North American Registry of Midwives and the Association of Texas Midwives Midwifery Training Program.

Beth helped lead Texas Midwives during her term as President of the Association of Texas Midwives to become recognized as “licensed midwives” in the State of Texas. It was a 3 year process from 2002 – 2005.

She had speaking opportunities to teach other health care professionals about childbirth, including speaking opportunities with paramedics from a local fire department and medical doctors in residency at a local hospital.

She has spoken at local high schools and at several public events sharing about the benefits of natural childbirth and midwifery care.
She has taught childbirth classes not only to her clients but also others choosing other birth options.
